Is an ankle sprain really that big a deal? Maybe it’s just a nuisance. You can wait it out. Those are mistaken conclusions that some people reach, but the truth is that you should take advantage of our specialized care at Central Florida Foot and Ankle Center when it comes to treating ankle sprains.
It’s an unfortunate truth that it is all too easy for you to suffer a Lakeland ankle sprain. All that need happens is you turn it the wrong way, trip over something, or land incorrectly. Pain announces that you have a problem, but it may not necessarily be the one you assume. In some cases where patients assume that they have a Lakeland ankle sprain, they actually have a bone fracture. That’s one reason why you should be examined in a timely manner. When you come in, our foot doctor will probably order x-rays to see what’s going on inside your ankle. If it is a sprained ligament, the severity of it along with your unique circumstances, needs, and preferences will combine to form a determination as to what action to take. IN some cases, all that is required is rest. No matter what, you will need to avoid putting pressure on it, so the use of crutches or a walker are highly recommended. Ice is useful for swelling. And compression, the wrapping of the ankle in a flexible cast, is probably also a good idea. The final component is elevation, keeping the ankle above your head for up to two to three hours per day, if possible. Combined, we use the acronym RICE. If the ligament is torn, surgery may be required. Otherwise, treatment is generally confined to medical methods.
